What I Learned About
The global droughts going on right now have made a whole host of strange things surface. From dead bodies in Lake Mead, Nevada to “Hunger Stones” in the river between Germany and the Czech Republic. It’s fascinating to read about these stones that warn of hard times. One of the stones found in Germany essentially says “when this goes under, life will be more colorful again.” Fascinating and scary.
What We Should All Remember
The origins of the phrase “Pull Yourself Up By Your Bootstraps” was originally meant to be sarcastic because it’s a literally impossible task. Yet now its meaning has changed.

What Made Me Scratch My Head
I read that the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off is getting a spinoff. It will apparently follow the two guys who took Cameron’s Dad’s Ferrari from the parking garage in downtown Chicago. I just don’t think I need to know that story. It feels so forced, like an obvious attempt just to pull on some nostalgia and a built-in audience. But I guess that’s the name of the entertainment game now.
What Video I Enjoyed
This father and son team built and programmed a knife launcher. It uses lasers to calculate the distance and speed/rotation needed and then fires the throwing knife so it will hit the target. Very impressive build and a fun video to watch the whole process.
Where I Have Visited
I recently saw this post about Casey, Illinois … the self-titled “world’s largest small town”. They have dozens of giant objects located throughout their town. We visited Casey, IL in December 2021 as we drove from Virginia to Colorado. We saw a little sign on the highway about the world’s largest small town and decided to take a detour. We weren’t disappointed. It was a fun little diversion to see giant windchimes, rocking chair, mailbox, pencil, taco, etc. displayed throughout the town. Something I had sort of forgotten we did and then that post appeared out of the blue.
What I’m Listening To
The new Muse album released today! So far, so good. The title track is still my favorite so far (released a couple months ago).
