My family got into watching RPDR about two years ago. We started with season 5 and were hooked almost immediately. spoiler alert The winner, Jinkx Monsoon, is one of my favorites of all time.
In the past two years we’ve binge watched all the seasons (except season 1) including two of the All Stars seasons. It’s just been a lot of fun for us.
Between the drama (present in all reality shows) and the artistry that is drag is the entire story of these human beings and the hardships they’ve had to endure growing up. Most of the queens are gay men, but there are several trans people and one (that I remember) who isn’t gay.
One of the staple moments in the show happens toward the end of the season when RuPaul shows a photo of a queen when they were younger and asks what advice they would pass along. It’s often heart-breaking hearing the tragic stories and rough childhoods they had. But also uplifting to hear these queens rise above the challenges and bask in their accomplishments.
Anyway, it really is a fun show. We’re one week away from the Season 13 finale … and I can’t wait to see who wins! Honestly any of the three except Kandy. I’m #TeamRose, but love Gottmik and Symone too.
