Mindfulness

I’ve recently decided I need to practice more mindfulness.

I’ve always been pretty carefree and not really too focused on the past or future. The problem is, I also tend to default to just “live” in the present. I have a pretty damn good life, and so I typically just let things happen without really giving it much thought or pay too much attention.

For the most part, that has worked fine for me. But I also tend to forget things or not remember events. It helps that I have a wife with a steel-trap mind; but it’s also not fair to rely on her to remember everything for me. So for that reason, I’m going to try to become more mindful of life.

Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us.

Fortunately, this should also serve me well in other areas of my life: work, productivity, creativity, etc. Have you actively tried any mindfulness techniques? Anything you can recommend?
