COVID-19 Diary – week 10

Stuff I thought about while withering away in mind-numbing isolation due to a pandemic the likes of which I never want to see again in my lifetime.

Social media is the devil. All I see is responses to outrage and not the outrage itself. It’s a perpetual back-and-forth outrage machine. In response to the outrage machine, I started posting jokes and puns that I found online to Facebook. That’ll teach those trolls.

I’m going to re-read “Digital Minimalism” by Cal Newport and probably do another digital fast in June. I’ve been thinking about how I spend too much time on the interwebs and in the digital realm anyway. I want to focus on enjoying the physical world more.

We did a winery visit in our backyard this weekend. The wife made a big cheese platter and we had three different bottles to taste. We spent two hours outside in wonderful weather with the adult kids and it was wonderful.

Cheese Platter

The smoked salmon from last weekend was a success. The wife and son made omelettes with it, made a cream cheese dip with it, and just ate it plain. It was a long process, but kind of fun to do. Looking up more smoker recipes for the future.

My puppy got spayed this week. She’s a pretty mellow dog anyway, but I think she’s handling it OK. She really wants to dig at those sutures though.

Our water heater broke at the end of last week. I tried taking a cold shower and just decided people are going to have to deal with me being smelly. The repair people come tomorrow (Tuesday), so people won’t have to suffer much longer.

I started an ink journal this week. I figured since I’m collecting more fountain pens and ink, I should start tracking which inks I have and what qualities I like in them. I’m using a post I found on gouletpens.com as the model for my ink journal. Now, time to order some more ink samples …

We had a rough time with deliveries this week. One item damaged. One item lost. One item ordered and then told days later it was out of stock. One item incorrect. It was very strange … I think only one order arrived correctly last week. Two of the customer service departments went above and beyond. Note: we placed an order from Kohl’s that they split into like five different packages … which we’re still waiting on a couple.

A special thanks to our fallen heroes who died defending our freedoms on this particularly quiet Memorial Day.

Stay safe. Wash your hands. Wear your mask. See you soon.

  1. I love reading your diary. It helps me through the fact that I can’t go to see you and your band of crazy people right now. ❤️
